I’d been meaning for awhile to read one of Judy Blume’s adult books, so a little bit ago I picked this one up at Costco. I finally got to reading it this weekend, and I have no idea why I waited so long! It was a great book – I laughed, I cried, I felt like I grew up with these girls.
I identified a ton with Victoria, and I definitely understand why she wanted to be friends with Caitlin. It’s just exciting to be friends with someone so opposite of you, you feel drawn to them and you can’t help it.
I don’t necessarily think I can say a whole lot about this book without giving it away. It’s simply a beautiful story of two young girls growing up into adulthood together. Nothing supernatural or extraordinary happens, and I think maybe that’s why I liked it so well. Just a normal life story, and the wonder that goes along with knowing someone for such a long time. I don’t have any friends left from when I was 12, so it’s an interesting idea to me that these people managed to stick together all throughout their adolescence.
However, I would love to discuss the book with anyone who has read it, so feel free to post comments about details in it. I just don’t want to spoil it for anyone in the main post.
In case you had any doubts, Judy Blume is a great author in all venues, and I’m so glad I read this book. I’m going to seek out her other adult books and read them all, just like I tried to do with the ones for kids when I was younger.
