Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 15

Posted April 18, 2013 By dorolerium

Welcome to Nail Polish Lottery Club, where a bunch of people have gotten together for this club to randomly choose a number each week.  That number correlates to your polish collection, and you therefore wear the polish that equals the number for the week.  It’s easier if you manage your polish collection in a spreadsheet or something along those lines.

If you’re interesting in joining up with the NPL Club, you can find them on Facebook!  You can read more about the guidelines here.

This week the chosen number was 21!  For me, that came out to China Glaze Cranberry Splash, which was part of their 2012 Holiday Collection.

China Glaze Cranberry SplashTo me, Cranberry Splash is the quintessential red for a Christmas ornament.  I decided to play around with having some matte versus shiny, kind of like how ornaments come in both options.  My index and ring fingers have Essie Matte About You for the top coat, middle and pinkie fingers have Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

China Glaze Cranberry SplashI then decided to play around with the tips, so I mattified the ends of the shiny ones, and vice versa.  I think if I do this in the future, I’ll make the tips bigger and possibly in a different pattern than just straight across.

Overall, this is a really fun color, and would be fantastic for the holidays later this year!

The number this week was 97, which corresponded to China Glaze Winter Berry.  I’ve been dying to use this color ever since I got it over the 2012 holiday season, but didn’t have the chance.  Over the last year or so, China Glaze has been releasing these really amazing, super dense glitter polishes that I am in love with.  You can build them up on their own with two or three coats, or layer them over another color.  I’ve been obsessed with them, and this one is no different.

This first picture was taken in full sunlight, although I promise you it still does not totally capture the beauty of this polish.  You have to see it in person to really understand the depth of it!

China Glaze Winter BerryThis is a kind of close-up to get a better idea of the immense sparkle that it has!  This one was taken inside under regular light.  I wanted to get a better close-up, but my iPhone doesn’t have a macro option and I was too lazy to grab the regular camera.

China Glaze Winter BerryAnd here’s a not close shot indoors in regular lighting.  Love this polish!!!

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Weeks 10 & 11

Posted March 22, 2013 By dorolerium

A few weeks ago, I was blog surfing and ran across this idea called the Nail Polish Lottery Club, where a bunch of gals (and maybe some guys?) have gotten together for this club to randomly choose a number each week.  That number correlates to your polish collection, and you therefore wear the polish that equals the number for the week.  It’s easier if you manage your polish collection in a spreadsheet or something along those lines, and luckily I started doing that about a year ago so I could keep track of what I have…makes for me not buying dupes :)

If you’re interesting in joining up with the NPL Club, you can find them on Facebook!  You can read more about the guidelines here.

I lost track of time last week and didn’t post, so I’ve got both weeks 10 and 11 here for y’all today.  The number for week 10 was 128, which for me corresponded with Essie Mochacino:

Essie MochacinoAccording to Essie, Mochacino is “a perky gray with shimmer”.  I’ve looked at this color in the drawer before and I think I’ve skipped over it before because it seemed a little boring to me, it’s kind of a neutral and I don’t tend to wear those colors often.  However, I must have overlooked the shimmer in it, because I actually really liked the whole effect when I had it on!  I change my polish up every couple of days so I decided to liven it up a bit with this combo:

OPI Casino Royal over Essie MochacinoThis is the same color with OPI Casino Royale on the tips.  Casino Royale is one of my favorite red-ish shades at the moment.

The number for week 11 is 41, and for me that was China Glaze Grape Juice:

China Glaze Grape Juice over Zoya NidhiI had already been wearing Zoya Nidhi at the time, so I decided to leave that on and do a tape mani to see what it would look like.  The contrast of the red under the purple is pretty bright, but I like it.  And the shimmer in both polishes is really complimentary, though it’s easier to see that in person than it is in the photo.  This one is in full sunlight in my kitchen, taken with my iPhone.

China Glaze Grape Juice over Zoya NidhiAs a comparison, this one was taken in just regular lighting in my home office.  Since I’m indoors more than out, this is a slightly better representation of the combination.

A few weeks ago, I accidentally found myself in DSW…it wasn’t a planned trip, but it was along the way to something else I wanted to do so, yeah.  I was in the market for some new brown boots, and this is what I found!!!

These are made by b.o.c. by Born and are so awesome!  If you want your own pair, you can buy them online or at your local DSW.  These are comfortable and adorable, I’ve been getting sooooo many compliments when I wear them :)

I love that at this time of the year, sparkley things come out in droves.  Like these adorable shoes:

These would be oh so painful to walk in, but gorgeous at the same time.  They are available from ShoeDazzle.com and are called Sawyer.

Fashion Claudia Kishi Style

I was just reading a fashion article about things professional women should never wear to work.  I’m of the opinion these things should never be worn period, but that’s beside the point.  One of the things on the list is the dreaded fanny pack, and this is what they say:

The fanny pack went out of style way back in the 80s, taking side ponytails and neon brights along with them.

Minus the fanny pack, they totally just described a Claudia Kishi outfit!  How sad she would be to learn her fashion faves are not allowed in her professional environment.  I bet she goes home and eats five snickers bars when she reads that, pulled out of her Stephenie Meyer books that she’s hollowed out.

Of all the shoes I own (which, for the record, is not actually that many if we’re comparing me to women who are not a part of my family), this pair has by far gotten me the most compliments. Yes, more than any of the adorable sandals I own, fun heels, even more than my super cute winter boots.

I, of course, think they are cute shoes. Why would I own them if not! What I’ve never really grasped, however, is why these shoes have garnered the most compliments. And when I say compliments, I’m referring to men. Women comment on my shoes all the time but really, that’s to be expected. We ladies notice each others footwear!

They are a basic skater shoe, no frills and nothing remarkable about them, but for some reason they just draw the boys attention. Maybe it’s because it’s rare to see a professional woman wearing shoes like this – it’s to be expected when you’re in high school, not when you’re ten years removed.

In addition to being cute, they are super comfortable. I bought them kind of on a whim, I was looking for a pair of white shoes in the same style and just fell in love with these. They only offered them in this color (which is called Cement I believe) or pink, and as much as I love pink, I couldn’t bring myself to commit to it in a shoe in that style. I had slight reservations about purchasing them because of the color, but I’m really glad that I did. I am loathing the day when they are worn out and have to be replaced.
