First in a Series Challenge – 2010

December 05, 2009 By: dorolerium Category: Books, First in a Series Challenge

I’m so glad to learn that I’m not the only one who has a stack of series’ just waiting to be read.  No, I’m not counting Sweet Valley High and The Baby-Sitters Club, stop that wishful thinking.  In fact, to pick things out for this challenge, I started looking through my books and I even have a series or two I forgot I even had!  Books are possibly my only possession that I think “oh wow, I didn’t realize I ever bought that!”  Yeah, I compulsively purchase books, isn’t that what Costco is for?  I’m already loving the First in a Series Challenge, and it hasn’t even started yet!

Although it’s not in the rules, I’m forcing myself to read the first book in a series that I actually own.  Fortunately, I have three completely unstarted series sitting right behind me, and they are:

  1. A Wrinkle in Time – Madeline L’Engle: I know this is a childrens series, and although my siblings read it, somehow this series passed me by.  I think I was too caught up in Anne of Green Gables, because who doesn’t love Anne Shirley!  Who you know I was tempted to add to this reading list, btw.  Anyway, part of the goal of this blog was to both explore things I had actually read, and go back and read things I feel I missed out on.  So I will finally embark on what is considered to be a wonderful fantasy story.
  2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – JK Rowling: Yes, I may be the only person left who has not read the Harry Potter series.  Stop judging right now!  I’ve been wanting to read it for quite awhile, and just haven’t gotten to it, so you can bet I’ll be starting now!
  3. Darkly Dreaming Dexter – Jeff Lindsay: For approximately four years, I have wanted to read the books that spawned my most beloved good serial killer, Dexter Morgan.  I’ve heard from friends that this will give me a whole different perspective on Dexter, and that I may not hold him quite as beloved after I read it, but I have to take the risk.

Once I get through these, I may venture past the “Curious” phase of the challenge.  Only time will tell!
