Song of the Week
It’s been awhile since I posted one of these, almost two months in fact. And I’m sure that right at this moment you’re like “OMG what horrible pop song is she going to feature this week?!” Don’t you worry your pretty heads, there will be some more Lady Gaga in the future, just not this week.
It may shock you to learn that I am not typically a fan of actors turned musicians. Or of musicians turned actors. Much of the time, I feel like they don’t really have the talent for both, and tend to get credibility in one area because they’re popular in the other. I would say someone like Justin Timberlake is a notable exception to this. Don’t judge, y’all! I quite like Justin!
But, that’s not actually the musician/actor I’m talking about this time around. I am instead talking about Jared Leto, who you may know as Angel from Fight Club, the main guy in the movie that quite possibly made me the most sick to my stomach Requiem for a Dream, or the TV show My So-Called Life. Or maybe you know him as the lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars.
I’ve known about this band for years, but I never really bothered to listen to them because of the previous mentioned feeling about this sort of thing. And honestly, they weren’t necessarily widely available, and it seems like when they first came out, music on the internet was not what it is today.
So imagine my surprise when I hear this song on the radio that I quite like, and I ask my car the band and song title and it tells me 30 Seconds to Mars – Kings and Queens. I thought “holy shit, I actually like this band!” The video is also interesting, and makes me want to put LED lights in my bike tires. Also, my dog likes the beginning with the bird squawking.
In case you wondered, this song got this band placed firmly at the top of my “next to purchase” list. Yes, it bumped out Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson. My only complaint about the video is that we don’t get more of Jared Leto. That man is hot!!!
