What Are You Reading on Monday?
This is a weekly Meme run by Book Journey. Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week. I read a lot more slowly than everyone else it seems, but my goal for the year is one book a week so while I need to play catch up, at least I’m getting better!
Fallen – Lauren Kate: I liked this book and will be posting a review later this week. Although I’m not sure if I liked it as well as Hush, Hush.
Books I’m reading this week:
Say You’re One of Them - Uwem Akpan: This is admittedly not the book I would normally choose to read, it’s very far away from my typical reading. I have a difficult time with legitimate human tragedy that has occurred during my lifetime as reading material. But I was just invited to join a book club, and this is what we’re reading this month, so I picked it up at the book store this weekend. Hopefully I like it. Otherwise, it’ll probably make me wicked depressed.
Books ongoing:
Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy: Yep, haven’t made a single page of progress in this one this week. I hope to get better about it as time permits. Moving and working makes me busy, y’all!
So, what are you reading on Monday?

I’ve seen Say You’re One of Them on a few different lists today.
I’ve got to tackle Anna Karenina this year as well – kind of dreading it!
1One of these days I’m going to pick up Fallen and Hush, Hush to read them, but until I can finish what I’ve already got lined up and I can make a trip to the library, I will just have to satisfy my craving for both books by reading everyone else’s reviews of them. Glad you enjoyed both of them!
Happy reading this week and here’s wishing you luck in reading a chapter or so of Anna Karenina this week too.
2I adored Anna Karenina and would like to read Say You’re One of Them and Fallen. Happy reading. My Monday: http://www.rundpinne.com/2010/02/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-8.html
3I really liked Fallen. I have got Hush, Hush on my TBR pile so it will be interesting to read to see how the two compare.
4Fallen is on my TBR and I enjoyed hush hush. I am currently reading Hotel On The Corner of Bitter and Sweet and loving it!
5Lydia – I would say don’t dread Anna Karenina at all! I really like it a whole lot, my problem is that it’s so large, and I have so many other things to read at the same time. But I think it’s a fantastic read, I say dive right in!
I hope to finish Say You’re One of Them this week. I hadn’t heard of it before this, actually, but I’m hoping I like it!
6Hannah – both books are definitely worth reading! I liked Hush, Hush better overall, but I liked them both and would recommend them! Fallen is definitely better for a slightly younger audience, like a pre-teen/early teen daughter. Hush, Hush has more adult themes (if I remember correctly) and is suited a little more for a mid-teen.
Anna Karenina is really easy to pick up and read a small amount in, I think I’ve just been distracted by other books for the last little while. Have you read it? It’s a great book!
7Jennifer – I am finding that people either love Anna Karenina, or they hate it. I absolutely adore it when I have the time to read it, and I’m so embarrassed that it’s taking me so long to finish. I will count myself happy if I finish it by the middle of the year, just because of the length and my other reading priorities!
Fallen was pretty good, I’ll have my review up soon. I’m really hoping I like Say You’re One of Them, it sounds a little depressing based on the description.
I’m sorry to read of the loss in your family, my thoughts go out to you.
8Chrissie – I liked them both, but in different ways. Fallen is geared towards a slightly younger audience, and I think it shows a bit in the writing. I look forward to seeing what you think of them both!
9Sheila – Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet has been on my wish list for awhile, I’m so glad you’re liking it! I can’t wait to read the review
I ended up liking Hush, Hush better than Fallen, I think mostly because it was written for a slightly older audience and it was a little less obvious plot wise. But I look forward to the sequels to both of them!
10I haven’t read Anna Karenina, but I suppose that’s because I was pretty much turned off by the movie. The black and white version. (don’t know if there’s more than once version…i just remember the one i watched was black and white. LOL) I’ll have to give it a try someday.
11I think that a book a week is an excellent goal. Last year I finished 47 books. This year my goal is 60.
Currently I am reading:
Invisible Man – Ralph Ellison
Sleepless – Charlie Huston
Weather Report – Rob Carney
Made Flesh – Craig Arnold
The last 2 are poetry books, so they barely count.
Good luck with your goal Crystal.
12I also finished “Say Your One of Them” last week. It was hard to get through for me because of the sadness but I’m glad I read it.
13Hannah – I’ve heard similar things from people who have listened to it on CD instead of reading the book. I wonder if something just gets lost in translation between the reading and a media presentation of it. And I’m honestly not sure how anyone could successfully make a movie out of it, it’s such a long book!
I hope you do give it a try, and that you like it
14Mark – are you still listening to most of them, or are you getting more time to actually read? I wish I could listen to books on tape or something, I just lose focus and end up having to redo it anyway.
We’ll see if I can get a book a week in. It seems like last year I got a book in every other week, but I was unemployed for six months so I read pretty heavily while that was happening and made up time.
Good luck with your goal too!
15Tammy – I’m not even 20 pages in and it’s definitely very sad. I’m glad to be reading it so far, but I think it’s going to be a difficult read for me.
