Award Time!!!

I feel so loved to have two new awards recently!  First, Chrystal over at Snowdrop Dreams of Books has presented me with the Versatile Blogger Award!  So much fun!!!

Rules of the award:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
2. Write 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic.
4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked to let them know about the award.

Okay, first, my seven things (I had to go back and read the last time I posted this so I don’t duplicate anything, lol).

  1. This year is the first in my adult life that I have put up a Christmas tree.  For a variety of reasons, I just haven’t done it before.  But I’m sad that I’ve never done it before, because I love the pretty lights and glitter!!!  Now it is a daily cat watch to make sure that beast doesn’t knock the tree over or take the ornaments off…
  2. I have two beagles along with the mischievous cat previously mentioned.  People think I’m crazy for having two beagles, which I might be, but one is silent as a mouse so it’s really only like having one much of the time.  The noisy one, however, totally makes up for the quiet one.  And yeah, it’s a little like a zoo in here sometimes.
  3. Despite all my best efforts, I can’t seem to keep my DVR much below 60% full.  I am almost always super behind on my TV shows.  I blame being unemployed for six months, getting hooked on shows, and now having a job.  But the big secret is – I had this problem before I was unemployed!
  4. I love some really girly things, like nail polish, perfume, and fashion magazines.  I have way too much of each of these items.
  5. If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be London.  It’s such a beautiful city with lovely history, and I became enchanted with it when I visited in 2004.  So if there are any British dudes out there reading my blog, I’m single… 😉
  6. My blog URL – dorolerium – came from the name of a scene in The Wizard of Oz (the movie, not the book).  The scene was called Dorothy’s Delerium, which I decided would be super fun scrunched together.  I have been obsessed with this since I was like 17, way before I named this blog.  I think if it weren’t way too weird, I might name a kid Dorolerium.
  7. I have recently been rewatching Firefly for the first time in years.  It makes me sad all over again about this show being canceled, and reminds me of why I am boycotting Fox!!!!!  Joss Whedon or bust!

Second, The Mad Scientist at Steampunkery & Book Reviews has awarded me the Life is Good award!  This is awesome, and I love hearing from you guys!

Rules for this one are:

1. Thank and link back to the person that gave this award.
2. Answer the 10 survey questions.
3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic.
4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked to let them know about the award.

The questions and answers are…

1. If you blog anonymously are you happy doing it that way; if you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now?

I don’t blog anonymously, I don’t hide that my name is Crystal, but I don’t totally advertise it either.  But it’s not that I feel like I need to be private, it’s more like I don’t think it matters.  I don’t give the names of friends or other people in my life, because that’s not my decision to make, and again, it’s not exactly important.  Unless y’all are worried I am making up friends…

2. Describe one incident that shows your inner stubborn side:

Inner stubborn side?  I wouldn’t really call it “inner”.  I’m just plain stubborn, and I know it.  I tried hard for a long time to not be, and it’s ultimately one of the reasons I ended a 10 year relationship.  I want things my way.  See – I’m the oldest of six kids, I was used to getting my way all growing up.  It’s hard to get yourself out of that mindset.  I try to be tolerant, but I eventually get the crazy and snap…it just doesn’t work!

So, an example.  Well, I have two dogs and a cat, which my ex did not want, but I have them because I wanted them.  I basically just went out and got them, and figured he’d learn to deal with it.  Do I sound like a bad girlfriend?  I think I am just perfect, for the right person 😉

3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?

Superficially, I always notice the eyebrows I needed to pluck and forgot, and then I regret that when I was younger I stopped wearing my retainer because I can see how my teeth have shifted and I hate hate hate it.

I don’t spend time in front of the mirror being introspective.  I write for that.  I spend tons of time thinking about me (not in a conceited way!), figuring out what I want to be and do, who I want to spend my time with, and working on being the kind of person I admire.  A big focus of my life in the last two years has been genuinely trying to find out how to be happy completely separate of other people, to be happy with myself, so I do think about that a lot.

4. What is your favourite summer cold drink?

I’m not sure if I can just pick one.  I don’t have anything that I only drink in the summer or winter.  I love Vitamin Water, iced tea and coffee, ginger ale, and let’s be honest, mixed cocktails!

5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?

Since I live by myself, I take time for myself all the time…I get home from work and other than the dogs and cat, I don’t have to answer to anyone.  Which I love, because as I mentioned above, I’m stubborn.  I adore that I don’t have anyone to play couch commando with the remote, or decide what to have for dinner, or where we’re going to go.  So I spend a lot of time reading, watching whatever shows I want, taking baths, reading blogs.  It’s awesome!

6. Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?

Oh lordy, there are a lot of things that I’d like to accomplish!  I want to earn a history degree, have a job I genuinely love, live in the UK, eventually find someone I feel so passionately about that I *won’t* feel like I’m compromising.

7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching?

Maybe a combination of the overachiever and shy person?  I wasn’t shy, I’m still not, I was mostly uninterested in the other people.  And I wasn’t totally the top of my class either, but I was at school to learn and I very much wanted to do that.  I graduated from high school early because I felt I was just done with the public school system, and I didn’t like most of the kids, hehehe.

8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment of your life what would you see?

For me, this is more of a memory of a time, as things were a bit of a fog.  Right around my 28th birthday, we found out that my Grandpa had stage 4 kidney cancer.  Hearing that kind of news is just a punch to the stomach, and while I don’t remember where I was the second I got the news, I will always remember how I felt.  It was a poignant several months that are sort of a blur, taking him to chemo treatments, trying to spend as much time as possible with him.  It also sticks out to me as a reminder of things to regret, because I hate that I was so caught up in my own life in the time leading up to that and didn’t get to see him more when he was healthy.

9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?

I don’t find it difficult at all.  I mean, everything on this blog is my opinion of something.  I don’t change my opinion for other people or spice things up – this is definitely a lot of who I am.  Granted, I don’t use this as a journal or something like that, but if something I’m watching or reading made me feel emotional or very happy, I talk about it.  Like writing about my Grandpa above – totally made me cry.

10. If you had the choice to sit down and read or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?

Everyone who knows me in person could answer this question – I try to read a book a week.  I have like one personal phone call a month.  I hate talking on the phone.  I don’t mind interacting with people so much, but I guess I’d prefer it be over email or IM if it can’t be in person.  I can’t really multitask while on the phone, or spend time thinking about things either.  So I’d rather be reading.  If you want to talk to me, we should meet up!

  1. Chrystal

Ooo congrats on the other award! I loved your answers to these questions. :)

I can’t believe you haven’t had a Christmas tree for so long.
I can’t wait to put my little one up this weekend. :) It will be my first year with a tree and cats… so hopefully it goes well. LOL

    1. dorolerium

Thank you! I had fun answering the questions too :)

It has definitely been a long time without a tree, and it’s very weird in some ways. I’m glad to finally have room for one! Sounds like you get to have Kittie Watch 2010 too, lol.

  2. June

Thanks for the award Crystal! That’s so sweet of you to think of me. It’s been a long time since I’ve put a tree too. I don’t think I’ve done it since I left home and that’s funny cause I was the one to put it up there, usually by myself. Go figure. Maybe I wore myself out…LOL…I did have some concerns about my cats knocking it over too, so that didn’t help matters! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. dorolerium

      You’re welcome :) I love your blog!

My cat hasn’t tried to climb the tree so far, which surprises me. He does, however, like to hide under it and then pop out at the dogs, and that is endlessly amusing!

  3. Heather

Thanks for the award! This is the first year that I haven’t had a christmas tree – and it’s a little sad – our apartment won’t let us have one, and I hate artifical trees. And I’m going to my parents on Christmas and they just got an artificial tree – sigh. But I decorated my mantlepiece and hearth so it still looks ok.

    1. dorolerium

You’re welcome! I really enjoy your blog :)

I debated about having a real one versus artificial, but then I decided that it would be too messy – between the needles, and having to keep it in water, I don’t think it would work out. My cat likes to play with water, so I think I’d come home to a flood every day.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you’ll be able to have a tree again soon!

  4. Tracy

Thanks so much Crystal! It’s always nice to get cool awards. :)

  5. Beth F

Hey congrats on the awards and thanks so much picking me (random though it was :) ) for one of these. Fun.

    1. dorolerium

You’re welcome! I always just go through and pick something from my google reader because…the rules say “newly discovered” blogs, but I can never remember how “new” they are to me! So I figure it’s safe enough to just pick randomly from the list, lol.

  6. Arlee Bird

Such a surprise! I thank you for the honor and I will recognize my award on my next Saturday award recognition post.

    Tossing It Out
