It’s Monday! What are you reading? May 23, 2011

This is a weekly meme run by Book Journey!

Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week.

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme that was created by Marcia at The Printed Page, who graciously hosted it for a long, long time, before turning it into a touring meme (details here).  It is hosted at Mari Reads for the month of May.

*****

Again, wicked busy this week. I met Jonny 5 of the Flobots on Monday, which was really exciting because the Flobots are my favorite local band!  I also started taking Jujitsu lessons from a friend, so that’ll be a weekly thing on Wednesdays.

This coming week should be slightly less busy until later in the week, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way!  Not only have I not been doing much reading, I am just super far behind on all my house work.

Books completed last week:
Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling: I loved this book!  It’s my favorite of the series so far, and to me, this one was the first one that was really all about what this series is in my mind.  If you want to read my review, I posted it here a few days ago.

Books I’m reading this week:
The Rose Without a Thorn – Jean Plaidy: I totally forgot that it was time for me to read this one for Jean Plaidy week on Royal Reviews.  This is totally why I put my review schedule on my calendar, lol.  So I started it last week in place of something else, and I’ll finish it in a day or two.
The Lovely Bones – Alice Sebold: We’re having a books to movies week on Royals soon, and I picked this one since it’s been on my TBR list forever!  I’m looking forward to it!
A Creed in Stone Creek – Linda Lael Miller: So I never started this one last week because I realized I needed to read my Jean Plaidy book.  In the very rare chance that I finish BOTH of my other books this week, I will start this one.

Books ongoing:
Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy: Page 662.  A decent amount of AK progress this week as well.  I’m a couple of chapters away from finishing Part 6, and I’m hoping that I can trudge through this election section reasonably quickly.

Books I acquired this week:
I’m still trying to avoid buying books, but I didn’t get anything in the mail this week either, so no new books.  Which is really fine because I have sooooo many I need to read already!

What I watched this week:

  • Castle – That season finale totally had me bawling! What a hard one to see.
  • Fashion Police, The Soup, Chelsea Lately, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 1 girl 5 gays, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Khloe & Lamar, Keeping Up With the Kardashians
  • Valentine’s Day
  • The Vampire Diaries

I’m glad you liked Goblet of Fire. It is the book where you really start to see the stakes raised and things become so much more serious from here on out.

I finished my Book to Movie book for Royal Reviews just today (The Help). I resorted to keeping a list of review dates and the books I picked otherwise I always forget. Good luck with all your reading this week! I hope you get to read for fun too.

I agree with what you said about Goblet of Fire, and that’s why I liked it, I think. It was so good!

Congrats on finishing your Book to Movie book early! I seriously forgot that these theme weeks were coming already, for some reason I thought I had more time before June was arriving, lol.

  2. Comment by Pussreboots:

I finished ten books this week which actually surprises me because I hardly did any reading during my usual fun reading time. Come see what I finished.

I’m always amazed when I manage to finish something when I’m really busy :) Thanks for visiting!

  3. Comment by Mystica:

The Jean Plaidy and Alice Sebold books both sound good.

I’m a huge fan of Jean Plaidy, and I’ve had The Lovely Bones on my list for a couple of years. I’m glad to get the chance to read it now :)

  4. Comment by Kayleigh:

Congrats on getting so far into Anna Karenina. That book is my Everest, I’m desperate to read it but soo intimidated!

    • Comment by dorolerium:

I really enjoy it, I highly recommend picking it up some day :) It can be intimidating, but so worth the effort!

I’ve been working on Anna Karenina for over two years now, lol. So it’s taken me awhile to get to the spot I’m at!

But, it gets really good, so I say keep going :)

Thanks for the follow! I love getting new readers :)

This is my first time through the HP series and I am really liking it a lot, especially the most recent one!

  9. Comment by Bonnie:

I am also trying not to buy books right now… my gooodreads TBR list is over 300 titles! I did however win 4 books in giveaways last week and I am anxiously awaiting them! Have a wonderful reading week!

    • Comment by dorolerium:

I recently added a bunch of stuff to my goodreads list and it’s up over 500 at this point :X It’s kind of embarrassing!

I do love getting books from giveaways or ARC lists, it’s so much fun!

  10. Comment by Helen Murdoch:

The Harry Potter series is just so wonderful and now you are coming up on book 3: Azkaban! That was one of my favorites!
Helen Murdoch recently posted..Armchair BEA- Starting PostMy Profile

    • Comment by dorolerium:

I liked Goblet of Fire better than Azkaban, but I liked Azkaban better than the earlier two :) I feel like each book in the series gets better than the previous one.

  11. Comment by Laurel-Rain Snow:

Oh, I had the same reaction to the Castle season finale. I hope the show returns in the fall! Usually if I love a series, they cancel it!

Speaking of tear-jerkers, The Lovely Bones was one of those. And then I saw the movie recently. Very moving.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • Comment by dorolerium:

Castle has officially been renewed for a fourth season, so unless something happens over the summer, it’ll be back. This is the longest running show I’ve been able to watch Nathan Fillion in, although I was heartbroken when Firefly was cancelled.

I’ve heard The Lovely Bones is pretty moving, I’m looking forward to it. I might have to only stay at home when I read it!

  12. Comment by MarthaE:

Hi! I agree that I recall The Goblet of Fire was a move ahead from the others. I stalled at book 5 although my son gave it to me two years ago. Most of the early books I listened to on audio soooo I may have to get the rest now before I see the final movies.
The Rose without a Thorn sounds interesting.
You are brave to still be trudging through AK.
    Have a lovely reading week.

    • Comment by dorolerium:

I enjoyed the third book quite a bit, but I really loved this fourth one. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the whole drama with Lord Voldemort plays out!

The Rose Without a Thorn is pretty interesting, I’m trying to get myself to like Katherine Howard more, lol.

I’m pretty close to finishing Anna Karenina, and I do enjoy it, it’s just a thick one. On the whole, worth the effort :)

  13. Comment by Samita @ Book Purring:

Goblet of Fire is my fave HP book too, it’s so much fun :D I actually saw The Lovely Bones last week for the first time, I’m not sure I liked it but it’s a gorgeous movie :) Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve heard from a lot of people that either Goblet of Fire or Prisoner of Azkaban is their favorite. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series, but this book really was fantastic so I’m not sure if the rest will be able to surpass it.

I haven’t seen The Lovely Bones yet, but I’ve heard the book is fantastic. I’ll watch the movie at some point! I’ve seen a little bit of previews and it kind of creeps me out.

  14. Comment by Staci:

Sounds like life keeps you busy and that’s a good thing :D I want to re-read HP this summer. Have a great week!

    • Comment by dorolerium:

I’ve definitely been very busy! It’s fun, but I’m a bit worn out so I’m looking forward to a few free nights :)

This is my first time through the HP series, but I’m really enjoying it!

  15. Comment by Samantha:

I like that you list the shows you’ve been watching. Have you ever watched Bones? It’s one of my favorites. :)

I feel like I need to list reasons I’m *not* reading, too, lol.

I haven’t seen Bones at this point, but the first season is on my Netflix list. I do love David Boreanaz!

  16. Comment by Cate @ The Blonde Diaries:

I am about to restart the HP series. I got to book 6 and quit which was dumb on my part. I also have Anna Karenina in queue on my Kindle. I should probably start it and add in other books to help keep it going.

I am finally catching up on my shows. I still haven’t been able to catch up on Castle but I did catch Khole & Lamar, Jerseylicious, NCIS: LA, Bones, Private Practice, and Grey’s Anatomy. I’m hoping to catch up on Castle over the long weekend.

    Happy Reading and Watching!

I just started the HP series in Octoberish last year, and I’m really glad I finally decided to read it. It’s been a good series so far! I’m planning to finish it around July or August.

I’ve got a couple of episodes of Khloe & Lamar on the Tivo, as well as a handful of other shows. Castle is one that I watch religiously the night it comes on, so I’m not usually behind on it. Hopefully you’re able to get caught up soon!

  17. Comment by Anne Bennett:

I’ve not read any Jean Plaidy but I understand that her books are good. Is this your first book of hers?

I’ll probably be starting it tomorrow or the next day, I’m looking forward to seeing what I think of it.

  19. Comment by Marla @ Starting the Next Chapter:

Hello! I’m running behind today but wanted to return the visit. Goblet of Fire was probably my favorite of the series, as well. I bawled the first time I read it, but then that could also have had something to do with sitting up and reading it in one night. Who knows? Happy reading!

    • Comment by dorolerium:

It took me about a week to read Goblet of Fire, and I totally cried my eyes out during the last third or so. It’s just so sad!
