It’s Monday! What are you reading? February 27, 2012

This is a weekly meme run by Book Journey!

Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week.

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme that was created by Marcia at The Printed Page, who graciously hosted it for a long, long time, before turning it into a touring meme (details here).  It is hosted at Metro Reader for the month of February.

*****

The lesson I learned this time around is…don’t read other YA books directly after reading ones you really loved.

Books completed last week:
Fallen – Lauren Kate: This was a reread for me.  I should have just read a summary on Wikipedia or something, because I liked it even less the second time around.  It’s too bad, I hate when my opinion of a book goes down when I reread!
Torment – Lauren Kate: This is the second book in the Fallen series, and it was better than the first one.  I still have mixed feelings about this series.  I’m kind of bored with it.

Books I’m reading this week:
A Fatal Grace – Louise Penny ~ Page 14: We’ve got a mystery week coming up on Royals soon, so I’m reading this one for it.  I adore Louise Penny!

Books ongoing:
Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte ~ Page 223: A very small amount of progress in Jane Eyre this week, but progress nonetheless!

Books I acquired this week:
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – Stieg Larsson: I was waiting for this one to come out in paperback before buying it.  I prefer paperback to hard cover if I have a choice.

What I watched this week:

  • Fashion Police, The Soup, Chelsea Lately,  The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 1 girl 5 gays, The Ellen Degeneres Show
  • Castle
  • Six Feet Under
  • The Challenge: Battle of the Exes
  • Ringer
  • Modern Family
  • Web Soup
  • The Graham Norton Show
  • Revenge
  • Khloe & Lamar
  • The Oscars

I loved the Stieg Larsson books. In the end I couldn’t wait for the paperback but I normally prefer reading those too. Hardback is too heavy although they do look pretty.

I haven’t started the series yet, so it was easier for me to wait on this one. I have hardback on two of the Hunger Games books because I couldn’t wait on them!

  4. Comment by Mystica:

I hope you enjoy the Larsson book.

I couldn’t get through Fallen when I tried to read it. I do know what you mean about reading a book you love and then being disappointed by whatever you read next. I had that fear when I finished Deathly Hallows for the first time. I forget now what that next book was.

    Have a great week!

I think I would have disliked Fallen either way, it was just exacerbated by having read the Hunger Games series right before. I really *want* to like Fallen, I just can’t :/

  6. Comment by Sheila (Book Journey):

Nice job on Jane Eyre!!!! You are farther than me, its not that I dont want to read it – I have just had so little time lately.

I understand how that goes! I have weeks where there’s very little time for reading…last week was a hard one because I had so much work stuff going on, but I’m hoping that slows down soon!

  7. Comment by Laurel-Rain Snow:

I really need to read The Girl Who Played with Fire, since I must read them in order. I’ve had my paperback copy for awhile.

Too bad about the Lauren Kate series, and I’m glad that I wasn’t eager to read it…doesn’t sound like my cup of tea.

Have a great week! Enjoy Castle tonight….

I haven’t actually started the Larsson series yet, but I hope to start it soon. Soooo much to read!

I’m sad that I don’t love the Lauren Kate series either…I’m hoping it gets better in book three, if not, I don’t know what I’m going to think!

I had fun with the Castle last night…are you caught up on this season?

  8. Comment by Kristin T.:

I’ve been waiting for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet Nest to come out in paperback as well. I still need to read the second one, too. My dad reads Louise Penny – I need to try one.

Have a great week! Here’s my It’s Monday Post if you’d like to stop by…I also posted a new giveaway today (see sidebar) that’s open internationally.

I need to start the Millenium series soon, I haven’t read any of them yet!

I absolutely adore Louise Penny, I highly recommend picking up one of her books! Chief Inspector Gamache is one of my all time favorite characters :)
