It’s Monday! What are you reading? April 2, 2012
This is a weekly meme run by Book Journey!
Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week.
Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme that was created by Marcia at The Printed Page, who graciously hosted it for a long, long time, before turning it into a touring meme (details here). It is hosted at Cindy’s Love of Books for the month of April.
*****
I had another busy week, I’m dogsitting for a couple of weeks so I’ve been trying to take the dogs out more, especially now that the weather is so nice here. My dogs don’t play fetch, but the visiting dog does, so there’s been a lot of playing ball and stick in the backyard! Beagles don’t respond well to this, just fyi – they just sit and howl at the injustice of the fact that they don’t play fetch.
Books completed last week:
Gone to Ground – Brandilyn Collins: This was a murder mystery set in a small town in Mississippi. I didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it either. I’d describe it as a good summer pool or beach read.
Silence – Becca Fitzpatrick: I was half dreading this one, since I didn’t like the previous installment, but I had heard good things from other readers I trust. It was definitely the best book in the series so far!
Books I’m reading this week:
Outlander – Diana Gabaldon ~ Page 90: I haven’t wanted to put Outlander down, but I did to read those previously mentioned books. Since I feel like it’s calling to me so much, I decided to make it my primary focus for the week.
Books ongoing:
Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte ~ Page 280: No Jane progress this week.
Books I acquired this week:
I thought about buying books, but didn’t actually purchase anything, nor did I receive anything in the mail this week. I’m expecting a few to arrive soon, these things seem to come in waves.
What I watched this week:
- Fashion Police, The Soup, Chelsea Lately, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 1 girl 5 gays, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Graham Norton Show
- Castle
- The Challenge: Battle of the Exes – the season finale was this week, which makes me sad
- Ringer
- Khloe & Lamar
- Are You There, Chelsea?
- The Vampire Diaries
- After Lately
- Modern Family

Outlander was a frustrating one for me. Everyone seems to LOVE those books and LOVE Jamie, but I just wasn’t feeling it. And, as a result, the book slogged on for me. I’m glad to hear you’re liking it!

This is my second time reading it and I do love the series, but I can see how it might not be for everyone. I read the whole thing in a weekend last time, so I’m hoping to go through it a little slower this go around.

Ah – I listened to the Gabaldon series on Audible and really liked them! I haven’t read Fitzpatrick yet. I’m glad you liked this one better than the first.
Enjoy your week!

This is my second time reading Outlander, and I’m enjoying it more this time than I did the first time. I wanted to reread before picking up An Echo In the Bone.
The Hush Hush series is okay, the third one (the one I just finished) is by far the best one as of yet. There were times that I wanted to throw the second one out the window, lol.

Hopefully you’ll make some progress with Jane Eyre this week.
My favorite read this week was Stuck on Earth by David Class. Please come see what else I’m reading.

I really want to be reading Jane Eyre, I do love it, but other things seem to distract me too much. Hopefully I’ll get to it this week!

Classics take so long to read don’t they!? I’ve been working through Little Women for awhile now and before that I too read Jane Eyre!

They definitely do! I don’t even feel like Jane Eyre is as hard to get through as some classics, but it still takes awhile!
I also plan to reread Little Women at some point in the near future.

I’m trying with Outlander! I have the audio book. Hoping that format keeps my attention. I HATE giving up on books that are supposedly “awesome.”
Happy Reading and good luck!

I quite like Outlander, but I devoured it the first time and wanted to take a little more processing time this go around. I’m sorry you aren’t loving it as much as other people!

I have Outlander and I haven’t read it yet. I need to try it since so many people love it.

I read it for the first time about five years ago and really liked it…I’m trying to read slower this time since I read the whole thing in a weekend last time. Hope you’re able to try it soon, and that you enjoy it when you do

I have heard amazing things about the Outlander series – though I’ve never read them. I even own the first one, just haven’t cracked the cover. Definitely going to get to that this summer!
Happy reading this week!

Oh well…walks off in shame…
It’s good to hear you are re-reading it though. That means it will be excellent.

LOL – no need to walk off in shame!!! I’ve heard quite a few people who are reading it for the first time this year
It is quite a good book, probably my favorite classic novel.

I have Gone to Ground on my stacks…I’m not sure when I’m going to read it. Glancing through it, I could see parts I might enjoy and other parts, not so much.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and have a great week.

I think Gone to Ground illustrates the differences between my reading preferences and those of others – the things that drove me crazy about the book are the very things that I see others really enjoyed, based on the reviews I read. Ah well

Someday I will get to reading Outlander. I have it both as a physical book and an ebook. Have a great week!
