TV Roundup – August 1, 2012
I haven’t actually done a whole lot of TV watching of late, things have been way too busy, but I have managed to catch up on a few things.
True Blood
Ugh, how this show is boring me. I really have come to the conclusion that I have a gigantic problem with the fact that there are so many sub-plots going on in each episode, which leads to significantly less time with the main characters I actually want to see. And specifically it means much less time seeing Eric, Jason, and Alcide naked. I’m mostly tired of the Sam, Arlene & Terry, Tara, Hoyt, and Andy story lines.
Also, do we need to end every episode with a cliffhanger? I’m getting excessively tired of this and I can assure the producers that I watch based on the promise of Alcide’s abs, not on the off chance that Suckie will get bit by a vampire again.
One plus is that almost everyone seems to be getting mad at Suckie these days, which makes me extremely happy about what is going on with the season. There seems to be a civil war coming, a new vampire out to get Suckie, and she might even lose her faerie powers! So hopefully it gets more entertaining, or maybe we’ll find out they are ending the show and that will fix my dilemma. However, I always think maybe the season is going to get better, and it doesn’t, so I’m not sure why I keep hoping for more.
The Newsroom
In complete contrast, I think this show is the best thing airing right now…since Dexter isn’t on until September. I’m absolutely captivated by this show, to the point where I rewatch episodes just for the pure enjoyment of seeing Jeff Daniels act over and over again. The show is complex, entertaining, and I really can’t wait for each new episode every week. I’m disappointed that the season is half over at this point, but happy to hear that it’s been renewed for a second season.
I can’t remember the last time a television show filled me with such anxiety on a personal level, just watching the interactions, wondering how they will play out, and finding myself holding my breath. Something like this is the reason I watch TV, in the hopes that it will just be this amazing.
Seriously, if you haven’t watched this show yet, you really should. If you don’t have HBO, find a friend who has it and go catch up. If you don’t love it, you can leave me a comment saying how much my taste in TV sucks.
