It’s Monday! What are you reading? January 13, 2013

Reading on MondayThis is a weekly meme run by Book Journey!

Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week.

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme that was created by Marcia at The Printed Page, who graciously hosted it for a long, long time, before turning it into a touring meme (details here).  It is hosted at Lori’s Reading Corner for the month of January.

*****

I had a slower reading week than the last couple, but I think it’s because I’m reading so many at once right now.  I’m sure I’ll finish at least one of them this week.

I was also having some major browser problems and finally got them resolved this week, and I’m very happy about that.  It was a significant issue for pretty much everything I do online, one of those experiences that makes you realize how much we use computers these days.

Books completed last week:
Frozen Heat – Richard Castle: I didn’t think this was quite as good as the previous Nikki Heat novel, but I did enjoy it.  This series always entertains me!

Books I’m reading this week:
Blindspot – Jane Kamensky and Jill Lepore ~ Page 130: I’m going through a stack of old ARCs that I never got around to reading and picked this one from the choices.

The Panem Companion – V. Arrow ~ Page 27: I received this one through NetGalley a bit ago and started it late last week.  It’s an analysis of the world Suzanne Collins created in The Hunger Games trilogy.

Books ongoing:
Emma – Jane Austen ~ 24%: A bit of Emma progress this week.

The Hunter/Farmer Diet Solution – Dr. Mark Laponis ~ 80%: I didn’t read any of this one this week either.

Books I acquired this week:
Shiver – Maggie Stiefvater: I found this one on sale in the Kindle store.  I’ve been wanting to read it for awhile so I grabbed it.

Highland Surrender – Tracy Brogan: Another Kindle book, this one is for a review and tour coming up in February.

Suddenly a Spy – Heather Huffman: I’m participating in a blog tour for this later this month, so I received the Kindle edition this week.

Seeds of Discovery – Breeana Puttroff: Another blog tour book via the Kindle.

What I watched this week:

  • Fashion Police, The Soup, Chelsea Lately,  The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 1 girl 5 gays, The Graham Norton Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Justified
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • The Golden Globes – I love award season!

My Top 5 Artists This Week:

  • The Smashing Pumpkins
  • The Verve
  • Aimee Mann
  • The Killers
  • R.E.M.

That’s too bad, I hate when a series starts off well and lets you down in subsequent books. I’m glad to hear this one is good at the very least!

Nice mix of titles. I loved Shiver and Linger but was disappointed with Forever. Glad you got your browser issues sorted, that’s always frustrating. Have a great week and happy reading :)

It sounds like people aren’t fully on board with the rest of the Shiver series, but I’m glad to hear the first one is good.

The browser issues were definitely a pain, I’m very glad I’ve got them resolved.

  3. Comment by Yvonne:

I only read the first Nikki Heat book. It was good and I plan to get back to the series. Have a great week!

I think the Nikki Heat books have only gotten better since the first one, so I think you’ll enjoy them. I love that they’re just fun mysteries that tie into Castle!

It is frustrating how much we rely on our computers! You will enjoy Shiver. Have a great week.

It’s very frustrating, and I hate realizing it because something goes wrong. At least it was somewhat easy to figure out.

I’m looking forward to Shiver, I hope to get to it in the next few weeks.

  6. Comment by Laura Fabiani:

I’ve got a few books going at once too. It allows for a lot of variety in my reading but if one of them is a page-turner, then the others just have to wait. Enjoy your reading week, and thanks for visiting my blog!

I usually try to just have a couple, one on the Kindle for the gym and then another in hard copy, but I’m finding I can only handle so much of Emma at once (my Kindle book) so I switch from that to something else half way through. Or, as you said, if something is really gripping, that’s all I’ll focus on until it’s finished.

I love Emma! During a fun class in college we had to read it, then watch the Gwyneth Paltrow film and Clueless. Such a timeless story.
