It’s Monday! What are you reading? February 24, 2013

Reading on MondayThis is a weekly meme run by Book Journey!

Post the books completed last week, the books you are currently reading, and the books you hope to finish this week.

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme that was created by Marcia at The Printed Page, who graciously hosted it for a long, long time, before turning it into a touring meme (details here).  It is hosted at Unabridged Chick for the month of February.

*****

I didn’t post last week cuz I was just too busy.  This was a busy week too, but covers the last two weeks.

Highland Surrender – Tracy Brogan: I liked this entertaining trip to Scotland, and it was definitely a welcome change from my previous book!

I read the second one a couple of months ago and liked it a lot. I think it’s a clever series and Riordan does a great job of capturing the way kids talk :)

  3. Comment by Mystica:

I like The Big Bang and Modern Family. Unfortunately the Modern Family series has stopped showing here.

I’m the same way about many things, I think with books, my newer ones replace the details of the last one. In any case, I liked Loving Frank, although it was a bit sad.

I’ve got loads of tv series to catch up on but too many review books first :(

I run into the same problem, I’ve got a lot of TV that I watch, and I still have things to read too. But I do a fair amount of reading outside of my TV, and devote an hour or so to it every night before bed, so I’m okay with the balance right now. Plus most things go off for the summer starting in May, so that gives me a few months of less TV and I get more reading done then :)

Thoughts on the new season of Community? I’ve only watched the first two so far, but it seems that some sort of spark is missing from it. The Big Bang Theory, though? Keeps making me laugh and laugh. (although I’m a week behind on that one, too)

I have mixed feelings about this season of Community…I really love the show, and I think these episodes would have been better if they had aired back in September/October like they were supposed to. I had to really think about the first episode in particular because I didn’t fully remember the whole thing with Britta/Troy, and Abed’s breakdown. Plus the tie-in to the Hunger Games would have been more relevant back then. However, I think it’s hilarious that they aired the Halloween episode even though it was Valentine’s Day. I really like that they decided to just show what they already had regardless of the timing.

Big Bang always makes me laugh, but I’m always behind on that one too. Sheldon just cracks me up!

My book group read Loving Frank a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. There were many topics to discuss covered in this book but you it is definitely not an uplifting read. Have a great week!

It’s possibly my favorite read this month, and at least it didn’t drain me like some other heavy books do. I thought the idea behind it, with Mamah having to choose between Frank and her family, is really interesting as a discussion point. It made me reflect on how things have changed in the last 100 years in the US.
