Starring Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, & Freddie Highmore
Two wickedly musical people get together for one night, and it starts a huge journey for one young boy – the boy they didn’t even know about. He’s gifted with the same music abilities of his parents, and is convinced he will find them if only he can just play.
I admittedly decided to watch this movie because I love Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the plot of the movie itself was secondary for me. So I was pretty surprised to see how much I actually ended up liking it.
At the beginning, I thought, “Ugh, I don’t know how much I care about the kid.” But pretty soon, I really found myself wrapped up in his story and having a love/hate relationship with his very nature. It was charming to see this kid who knows nothing of the world set out to try and find his parents. The part I hated was seeing how heart wrenching it was that he unknowingly allows himself to be taken advantage of, due to how trusting the kid is.
The repeated near misses became increasingly frustrating to see, but really helped to build up to the climax of the movie, which was almost extremely satisfying. I say almost because remember how I love to see what happens next? Well, I want to know what happened next!
This movie also reminds me how much I wish I had music in my soul, like the people in this movie do. I love music, especially classical and choir stuff, so this movie brought two of my favorite things together. But I am just an observer of the music, it doesn’t speak to me and I can’t compose. In fact, I hated playing the piano. I wish I loved it, though.
I think this is a great movie regardless of your age. I’m an adult and I liked it a lot, but it would also be a fantastic thing to show to your kids, especially if they are musically inclined at all.
See this movie if: You like any of these actors, music, movies about music or kids. It really is a good movie, and I think only people who are super opposed to cute, sweet movies would dislike it.
My Rating: 3.5/5
