Hottest Vampire…

October 26, 2009 By: dorolerium Category: TV

I stumbled upon this poll when reading Whedonesque, a poll for who is the hottest evil vampire ever.  I don’t think we even need to ask who I vote for – I’m Spike all the way!  Although I do actually quite like both those other characters.  And Ian Somerhalder is pretty hot.

The poll, however, is not really why I am mentioning this, although y’all are welcome to go vote for Spike.

The real reason I bring this up is this right here…

…we’ve decided that, structurally speaking, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries are all the same show. Girl meets soft-hearted vampire, girl enters bizarre world of the occult, girl gets mixed up in some stuff, girl hooks up with hard-bodied other vampire, wackiness (and bloody good scandal) ensues.

Umm, have these people *watched* Buffy the Vampire Slayer?  Buffy did not enter the “bizarre world of the occult” after meeting Angel.  She was already a vampire slayer, aka way involved in the occult.  Angel did not introduce her to it!  Buffy was no innocent Sookie Stackhouse or Elena Gilbert – she wasn’t shocked by the revelation of vampires (Elena) or how evil they could be (Sookie).  I mean, hello! she watched her first watcher die at the hands of a vampire!

I would also go so far as to say she doesn’t “get mixed up in some stuff”…she’s the vampire slayer.  The chosen one.  It’s not like she could back out, or just dump Angel and leave the vampire world behind.  It’s her calling, not something she got mixed up in.

I even just read their explanation here, and I still disagree.  Again, did they not watch BTVS?  Buffy is not from small-town America!  Granted, Sunnydale is not exactly the height of a population surge, but in case anyone forgot, Buffy is actually from Los Angeles.  Her mom moved her to Sunnydale after she divorced Hank.

And although Bon Tempe and Mystic Falls certainly have vampires in them, I recall no mention of a hellmouth in either of those cities.  In fact, Damon seems to have done a great job of making sure other vampires are not in Mystic Falls.

So I’m sorry, E! Online, but as a watcher of all three of these shows, I fail to see how Elena or Sookie can even compete with Buffy.  Or how True Blood or The Vampire Diaries can compete with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
