V 1:3
Erica is still hard at work trying to figure out who was at the warehouse the night we all found out the V’s aren’t of peace, always. Since we as the audience know her son is all in bed with the V’s, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that leaving all this V investigation stuff around the house is not such a good idea. Isn’t there some kind of confidentiality when it comes to FBI files?
Anyway, Jack comes over and she shows him all the stuff too, and again, is she really supposed to show that stuff to civilians? She gets a call right then that she’s gotta go protect the V’s, there’s a death threat from some dude, so she leaves Jack to just peruse the files in her house while she’s out working. Huh? She just me the guy!
In the meantime, Ryan is trying to gather up the group of original V defectors, called The Fifth Column. He goes to his old buddy Cyrus, who has gone traitor on the traitors and calls the V’s to come pick Ryan up. He says they are gonna reconnect him, and I am mildly confused. Did they just disconnect everyone who defected, or everyone that was a sleeper on earth? Apparently being connected is really just Anna’s way of controlling the V’s. They’re not all evil! Just her. Or something.
Erica goes to protect the V’s and does end up taking out the guy who made the threat. Except you suspect that he’s really a V when they insist on taking him away, and it’s confirmed later on. It’s mentioned that Dale (Alan Tudyk) wasn’t the only V at the FBI, and I’m wondering at this point if Erica’s FBI boss is also a V. If not, he is super into supporting their agenda. The entire threat seemed like an attempt to test Erica’s loyalty, in my opinion. But she passes, so great. Acting!
We also discover, through Erica spying, that all the V jackets, including the ones they give to the ambassadors, have cameras in them. The V’s are recording and watching everything they see. It’s pretty interesting, to be honest…I am really curious as to what they intend to do with the information, and how it plays into the master plan. Cept aren’t they going to figure out soon enough that Erica found the room?
As a side note, there are constantly near misses on this show, one being right when Erica is in the video room…she walks away just as her son comes into view in his own V jacket camera in the bathroom mirror. These near misses kind of drive me crazy.
There’s also this lady, Mary Faulkner, who is totally anti V because her husband was killed when they showed up. She meets with Anna and comes out a changed person, no longer grieving by hating the V’s. I wonder, what on earth did they do to her? Has she been connected? Is that the ultimate plan – not to kill all the people, but just assimilate them like the Borg?
Jack & Erica also end up meeting Georgie & Ryan, they are starting their own little resistance made up of people who are in the know. Fortunately, Ryan knows how to kill V’s, on account of he is one, so that works out well. Cuz they’re going to need someone who knows how to do that if they intend to save humanity. Or they could just call Clark Kent, he could just use his super breath and blow the space ships away.
Much to my chagrin, Dale appears to be dead for good now. But we learn that the doctor on the ship is actually a member of The Fifth Column, and he’s super interested to learn that Erica is going to be on their side. I like this backwards infiltration.
At the end of the episode, we learn that Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) is the daughter of Anna, and she says that Tyler is the one they should use. Use for what? Are they going to connect him or whatever too?
I like this show, but I was wondering while watching this episode – what is their long term plan for keeping the series on the air? As in, how long can there be fights between the humans/resistance and the V’s? Or maybe they just intend for this to be a shorter lived show, like they have a master plan and once it’s reached, they’re done.
