Annie is interested in Vaughn!  As in, the guy Britta dated awhile back and ultimately they broke up.  Poor Annie, she’s apparently not old enough to realize that Vaughn is just the sort of guy you admire from afar, at most.  For the record, I don’t admire him in any capacity.  But there are guys you date, and there are guys you don’t.  Vaughn is definitely in the don’t category.

She’s super sweet, though, and asks Britta if she’s cool with them seeing each other.  Britta asks what happened to Annie’s interest in Troy, but she says,

The other day, I thought he was trying to hold my hand after class.  But he had just mistaken me for Abhed.

I feel kind of bad for Annie, because Troy is likewise not that great.  Perhaps I’m biased, though, because I’m firmly on the Jeff bandwagon.

Speaking of, Jeff convinces Britta that Annie should be talked out of dating Vaughn.  At first, Britta doesn’t seem to be down with the plan and says something along the lines of Annie should see whoever she wants.  Jeff points out that Vaughn is just the gateway into the bad hallway of men, saying, “And that can be your toast at her shotgun wedding to Starburns.”  Who conveniently comes by and says he is into Annie, which pushes Britta over the edge!

The big plan is to trick Troy into asking Annie out, since Annie has the big crush on him.  But Troy acts really weird, and shows us all why he doesn’t have a girlfriend.  He even scares Annie off.

Annie is really upset with Britta and Jeff for interfering, saying she really likes Vaughn…who I guess is the maturity level of a guy appropriate for her to date, even though he appears to be like ten years older than her.  I can’t judge too much, I’ve been in the same situation.

The side plot is that Abhed, Troy, Shirley, and Senor Chang like to get together and watch movies.  Abhed was nice enough to invite Pierce, who is way lame, and basically embarrasses himself the whole time.  So, a typical day for Pierce.

In the end, Annie and Vaughn do end up back together, because they really like each other.  The group also decides to stop looking at each other in a sexual manner, at least for this episode.  Also, there is no mention of Jeff’s teacher girlfriend, for those who were paying attention.

Jeff has a secret girlfriend!  He won’t say who she is, says he wants to keep his privacy, so Pierce says it must be a guy.  Jeff, as usual, has a great response:

You’re wrong Pierce, it’s two guys

In the meantime, Troy has been taking an interpretive dance class, and he’s actually pretty good!  He runs into Britta while leaving class, and discovers that she is in fact taking tap dancing classes as well.  Neither of them have told anyone else, because they’re embarrassed about what it means for their images.  There’s going to be a dance recital at the end of the week, so they agree to tell the group that they are dancers and invite them to the recital.  I’m just a little excited to see that there are other classes outside of debate and Spanish at this school!

So it comes out that Jeff’s girlfriend is actually the teacher lady from a few episodes back, and it’s iffy territory because student teacher relationships are not so good.  They intend to continue keeping it a secret, but Pierce tweets it out and the Dean insists that the student teacher form is signed by both parties.  The Dean starts asking a variety of questions, including if they would define themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend – Jeff hesitates and the following exchange happens:

We’ve slept together every night for the past three weeks – how would you describe me?

The best friend ever!

Teacher is not so pleased with this, and says “That’s it – we’re breaking up!”  Well, not exactly, but if she was in Heathers she would totally have said that!  But ultimately, Jeff proves he wants to actually have that relationship with her, so they get back together and go to the dance recital with each other.  Troy wasn’t going to participate out of embarrassment again, but Britta needed some help so he runs out and dances with her!  It’s pretty funny.

If you take anything away from this episode, it should be that this cast is quite talented!

This was the funniest episode of Community in awhile.  The guest role of Buddy is played by Jack Black, but I’m going to say here and now that I think it’s the character that makes the episode funny, not necessarily Jack Black.  Because I am not the biggest fan of Jack Black – he’s okay, but I liken him to Jim Carrey back in the crazy days…just not my style.  That being said, he does remind me of this one guy I went to high school with.

Jeff ends up in the newspaper staff room, goes up to someone and says, “Excuse me, I received a text message about free Sephora samples.“  It turns out it was the Dean who sent it, just to lure Jeff to the newspaper room.  Aww, Jeff, that kind of text would get me too!  I loves Sephora samples!

The Dean wants Jeff to become the editor of the newspaper, I don’t exactly remember why, but tells Jeff he’ll get an English credit for it so Jeff is all for it!  I’d still insist on some Sephora samples, if I were him.  This is really just a vehicle for the theme of the episode, that Jeff is like Hawkeye from MASH.  Jeff spends most of the rest of the episode wearing Hawaiian shirts, like Hawkeye.

In the meantime, Buddy really wants to be a part of the study group, but no one really likes him.  He tries to impress them with a high kick and ends up kicking Jeff in the face.  Jeff bleeds and says, “It’s just a little nose bleed, I get them when it’s dry…and when my face gets kicked.“  Which is pretty funny.  I have the same problem, although I suspect instead of getting kicked in the face, my cat is beating me up in my sleep.

As time goes on, the group decides that Buddy is not allowed in, so they tell him as much and he says he’s not leaving.  So Jeff drags him out of the room with his pants down, while he’s crying.  But then later on Jeff feels bad and invites Buddy back to the group, saying how he can’t deny the guy the study group that he himself loves so much.

Just as Buddy is super excited to be a part of the group, Owen Wilson walks in with Starburns!  They also have a study group, which Buddy wanted into…so he tells Jeff & Co that they were his safety.  And off he bounds to be in the Owen Wilson group.

Also, at some point Abhed says my favorite thing of the episode, because Jeff calls him Radar…you know, along with the whole MASH/Jeff as Hawkeye thing:

You made me so happy I just peed a little

Abhed is pretty funny.  And possibly related to my dog.

I’m not sure that my description of the whole thing makes it sound as funny as it was, so you should totally watch it!  But can I say how glad I am that these major celebrities made guest appearances on the show?  Love it!

Because I am so far behind, this is actually the Christmas episode of the show.  Honestly I thought the show was on hiatus in December, but I was pretty busy with moving so it’s quite possible I missed the entire idea of this happening.

It’s also the end of the semester, which I sort of didn’t even think about in terms of the show.  Like somehow I forgot that the reason they’re all together is because they’re at school.  I dunno how I missed this.  But I also don’t know how the changing school semesters will affect the show.  The whole idea is that they’re all in Spanish class together…what happens if that ends!

The final Spanish exam is happening, and Jeff is pretty worried because he apparently won’t pass the class if he doesn’t pass the test.  Shirley is having a Christmas party after the final, but discovers that everyone in the study group is a different religion.  There’s a discussion about religion which leads Jeff to say:

For the same reason that I floss, have a bed frame, and keep my guitar in its case – I’m over 23

Shirley is pretty concerned about the fact that Jeff says he’s agnostic, so he tells her, “To me, religion is like Paul Rudd – I see the appeal, and I would never take it away from anyone, but I would also never stand in line for it.“  Whoa, Jeff, don’t blaspheme like that!  Don’t you know that Paul Rudd is on the Would Marry List!?!

Also, some bully made fun of Abhed, so Jeff stands up for him and ends up getting into a fight.  In fact, the whole study group ends up getting involved in the fight, although I have no idea who ends up winning.  But it’s a good group activity.

At the end, everyone goes to Shirley’s party, all bloody and bruised up from the fight.  A good time is had by all!

Greendale is having an STD awareness fair, which sounds pretty weird to me but what do I know, maybe the kids are into that kind of thing these days.  Annie is helping organize the fair, and the Dean asks her to demonstrate the proper method of putting a condom on…which is a bit of a problem for little almost virgin Annie.  But before he asks this, he tells Annie how wonderfully she’s doing and she says “I was voted most likely to succeed at my rehab clinic!”

In the meantime, Pierce has a girlfriend and challenges Jeff to get a date to the fair.  Jeff doesn’t exactly want to, but Pierce kind of gets to him so he starts looking.  Britta criticizes the naming conventions Jeff uses in his phone, which describe the looks of the girls and where he met them, but not their names.  She basically says Jeff is too old to be doing that kind of thing anymore.

Troy and Abhed start having sports competitions, Abhed wins every one, which pisses Troy off.  Eventually, Abhed lets Troy win a race, but Troy knows what’s really going on and declares Abhed a good friend.

Back at the STD awareness fair, the Dean sees everyone making out and says the funniest line of the episode…

I had no idea alcohol would make people horny, it makes me sleepy!

That made me laugh a little too hard in my currently sickened state!  And then he gets called away by a security guard, who tells him there is a situation in his office.  See, the ladies tried to break in to steal the dummy that Annie is going to have to demonstrate on, but they got caught, and everyone is none too pleased about this.  Nothing really happens as a result of it though, and Annie doesn’t have to give the demonstration after all.

The episode ends with the discovery that the condoms being handed out are faulty, so Abhed runs to the Dean’s office and tells everyone to not use condoms for the evening!

We open in the cafeteria, where the Dean is announcing that the school is changing their name from Greendale to Envirodale to show how environmentally aware they are.  He printed 5000 fliers with the new school name!  How environmentally friendly of him.  Side note, can you just change the name of your school like that?  I would think you’d have to ask someone for permission.

Cut to Spanish class where Senor Chang is being a total b!  He flips out because Annie doesn’t stop writing exactly when he says stop, and suddenly the class has a 20 page paper due, in Spanish, by Monday.  Oh, and a quiz too.

The team nominates Jeff to talk some sense into Senor Chang, aka get the class out of the paper and quiz, so he agrees with a little bit of persuasion.  He and Senor Chang start talking about how Senora Chang left and he’s real down about it, although he asks Jeff how he figured it out and Jeff mentions that he noticed Senor Chang wore the same shirt twice in one week.  I thought I was the only one who notices stuff like that!  This is a lesson: if you’re going to rewear clothes, make sure it’s at least a week apart.

Jeff does not manage to talk Senor Chang out of the paper for the entire class, but does get out of it himself, cept he has to go hang out with Senor Chang in exchange.  To Jeff’s credit, he didn’t really want to hang with Senor Chang and wasn’t trying to only get himself out of the paper, but he’s Jeff and no way is he not going to take advantage of that chance!

The group kind of figures this out and gets upset, but honestly, what did they expect?  Jeff is the most charming out of all of them, but he’s also the most self interested, so like he was really going to push for their best interests!

In the meantime, Pierce is helping Shirley with her presentation for marketing class.  It’s about brownies, from what I can gather, and Pierce starts talking about how you have to offer the audience a sandwich.  It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it did manage to make me hungry.  And sad that I have no cheese at the moment with which to make a tasty sandwich.

Mostly to get out of hanging with Senor Chang on a regular basis, Jeff arranges for him to meet up with Senora Chang, and they get back together at the school music gathering thingie.  It just occurred to me that it seems like Greendale has as many school dances and functions as Sweet Valley High.

Anyway, Senor Chang is happy about his wife coming back, feels bad about giving such a huge paper to the class, and revokes the homework assignment.  But gives Jeff a paper of his very own, on taking advantage of someone in their sad moments, which is mildly unfair because like I said, Jeff didn’t start out selfishly this time.  Everyone is so happy that they don’t have homework now, so they offer to help Jeff with his paper.  It all works out in the end!

One thing I found hilarious was that Shirley pointed out to Senor Chang that they were all in beginning Spanish, so how on earth were they going to write a 20 page paper?  Doesn’t that always seem the case in foreign language classes, you get assigned work beyond your skill level.  Or maybe that was just me.

Abhed makes movies, which we all knew already, but apparently they can tell the future.  He says he’s just an observer of human nature, Shirley says he’s a witch!  The video we see is of the scene from the last episode, where Jeff is living out of his car, except Abhed posted it two weeks before it happened!  It was a pretty funny rendition of what happened.

Annie’s debate partner drops out of their tournament, and for some reason they want Jeff and only Jeff to step in!  I don’t know if they try this because he used to be a lawyer or what, but one of the teachers says he could do it instead of “Romancing your nether regions in front of the E! channel.“  Which I find hilarious because I love any reference to the E! channel where Jeff is concerned.

Britta is trying to stop smoking, so Pierce offers to hypnotize her.  It doesn’t work, but to avoid hurting his feelings, she pretends she’s hypnotized anyway.  Pierce falls and needs help, but she stays “under” so he says “Damn my talent!“  Oh Pierce…

Who is pretty funny himself this go around.  He makes fun of Jeff’s clothes because his socks match his shirt.  He says, “By the way Jeff, I think your shirt’s trying to get out of your pants.

Jeff agrees to do the debate tournament for a parking space promised by the dean, so he goes and the debate team basically sucks.  Their topic is debating whether man is inherently good or evil, Jeff and Annie get the evil side, and he does nothing to prepare.  But does end up singing for some reason, to which the debate judge says, “It’s debate, not American Idol!“  Again, a veiled Seacrest reference, aka my favorite thing ever.

In the meantime, Jeff and Annie also kind of develop feelings for each other, but try to avoid anything and end up leaving awkwardly.  But they end up winning the debate by kissing!  Which Abhed also predicted.

I had seen the very end of the episode with the debate win the night the show aired, and the end seemed kind of dumb at the time.  After watching the whole episode, I loved it!

This was my aunt’s introduction to the series, and I’m sad that it wasn’t a funnier episode to start her out with.  Jeff wasn’t really on his game, which was undoubtedly the point of the episode, but he’s pretty funny so usually he makes up for whatever the rest of the show lacks.

Anyway, the premise is that Jeff has been kicked out of his condo due to some meaningless fees.  Which makes sense because honestly, how do any of these people make money if they’re at school all the time?

He moves in with Abhed, and adopts Abhed’s lifestyle of eating junk food and watching TV all day.  Abhed lives in the dorms, and I had no idea there even *were* dorms at community college.  Ultimately, Abhed asks Britta to talk Jeff into becoming himself again, because the Abhed life is just really not for him.

On the Annie front, she gets the idea that Troy wants to date her, when really he’s asking her for advice on how to ask someone else out and what to do on their date.  She pretends to have appendicitis to get Troy to miss his date, but it doesn’t work and she ends up taking her grandmothers blanket back from him.  Which I guess she gave him because she thought he was going to ask her out after all?  I dunno.

Oh, and before Jeff lives with Abhed, he is living out of his car and he pumps some iron from the trunk.  Hilarious!

Also, Vaughn is still upset over what happened with Britta, so he writes this song about how she’s a B.  And Pierce briefly joins Vaughn’s band as the keyboardist.

Shirley says my favorite line of the show: I’m not good at being coy.  Neither am I hon, neither am I.

And Troy thinks he’s funny.  Which was wicked amusing for him to point that out.

Community took a slightly different approach with their Halloween episode – to keep it in the context of the theme of the show, Annie throws a Day of the Dead party for Spanish class, in which everyone comes dressed up.  And Senor Chang has to come because Annie is getting extra credit for the party, which he is not happy about.

Their costumes are kind of funny: Annie is a skeleton; Troy is some guy who I can only guess is from the 70’s with that mustache; Shirley is Harry Potter, but everyone thinks she’s Steve Urkel; Britta is a squirrel because she hates that women use Halloween as an excuse to dress slutty; Pierce is the Beast Master, he thinks it’s cool which shows how out of touch he is; and Jeff is himself, he’s not really a costume guy.  I save the best for last – Abhed comes as Batman, specifically the Christian Bale Batman, and he does a really great impression of the voice!  He also takes the costume seriously for the night and saves people, which is amusing.

In the meantime, Jeff is trying to get this teacher to go out with him, but she doesn’t date students, so he sneaks out of Annie’s party and goes to the faculty party to try and show her his non-student side.  Ultimately it doesn’t work, because he has to help the rest of the gang.

See, Starburns gives Pierce some ecstasy, and Pierce is having a bad trip, so he freaks out and everyone comes running to Jeff for help.  I’m not entirely sure why they go to Jeff for it, he doesn’t really seem the type to care or whatever, but he tries to help and talks Pierce out of crushing himself to death with desks and chairs.  I’m not sure that would work anyway.

The episode was pretty funny, and the one line in particular that stood out to me was when Annie was trying to talk Jeff into going to the party, she said her tears worked on Pierce.  Jeff says, “Infomercials work on Pierce.

I am disappointed that we have gone several episodes with no Seacrest reference.  This is one of my favorite things, let’s have some more!

Jeff discovers that the Dean is using images of him on promotional material for the school.  Troy doesn’t want to join the Greendale Community College football team.  Houston, we have a confrontation!

In trying to talk the Dean out of using his picture on the posters, Jeff kind of gets blackmailed into getting Troy to play football.  It’s mean of the Dean!  Also, either Abhed or Troy mentions that the Dean looks like Moby, which I have totally thought from the very first episode!

Annie has also been helping Troy with astronomy, and when she finds out that Jeff is trying to get Troy to play again, she confronts him.  Cept Jeff makes her cry and asks if she enrolled in all of Troy’s classes because she’s infatuated with him.  She is apparently following Jeff around, and jumps out of a bush at him…to which Jeff says “I’m not having a conversation with someone who emerged from a bush.“  Hilarious!

Shirley also teaches Britta how to be more of a girl, the art of bathroom talk, how to be more sympathetic and help other girls through their problems or whatever.  Britta tries her new found skills on Annie and it works!  Although personally I didn’t fully feel like Britta was much more sympathetic than she was at first.

Jeff also calls Troy T-Bone, to which Troy asks how Jeff knew that was his nickname!  Jeff tells him that he is a football player whose name begins with “T”, so of course that’s his nickname!

It was a pretty funny episode, definitely better than the one previous!
