Starring David Boreanaz & Denise Richards
I originally saw this movie when it came out in 2001, sadly before I knew who David Boreanaz was. But I wondered even then, who would run from that man? He’s been hot for years!
This movie really seemed to be trying to capitalize on the popularity of other crap slasher films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Although I will stand by Scream as a great horror movie for the rest of my life, I love it. But generally, I hate horror movies. If I want to be scared, I’ll watch the evening news. So I wish I could say that Valentine was scary, but it was neither that nor was it good.
Despite having only seen it once before, I remembered a lot of details that I really shouldn’t have. I’m not sure what that means for the movie – was it memorable, or just that predictable? I mean, I was so bored and distracted that I knitted for awhile!
The details I remembered included who the killer was, how Shelley, Paige, and Dorothy died, and that Kate was the only one who was nice to Jeremy in the beginning of the movie. So really, since I remembered them and they were basically as I remembered, I’m not sure I needed to see the movie again after all. But it’s kind of how I feel about the Saved by the Bell episodes – it’s both good and bad to revisit these things.
Although David Boreanaz has been doing Bones lately (which I fully intend to see), I’m kind of sad that this was basically his first big movie role. Because the movie wasn’t good, I feel like it maybe hurt his movie career. Or maybe I’m just partial to him because of his other work. I could see some of Angel in this performance for sure, like at the party at the end. So despite this movie, producers and such should cast him in more!
See this movie if: I can’t really recommend this movie. I mean, if you’re totally bored and it’s raining outside so you can’t be enjoying your backyard or something, watch it. Or if you saw it before and thought “oh it would be interesting to watch that again”, do it. Otherwise, unless you loves the David like I do, I wouldn’t see it.
My Rating: 2/5
Six Degrees of Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
David Boreanaz played the lovely Angel on BTVS, aka the reason I started watching Buffy
