Song of the Week

September 02, 2010 By: dorolerium Category: Music

I can assure you when I say that I really meant to post this song months ago when the video came out,  I really meant to have this up months ago.  I don’t know what happened to me! The truth is, I didn’t even remember to watch it until days after it premiered. You can guess who it is, because if you think about it, there’s only one person who I yearn for videos from.

The first thing I will say is that this video features the most I’ve seen her clothed in quite awhile.  It’s like Tim Burton meets Madonna meets Awesome!  Say what you want about Lady Gaga, I will stand by the fact that she is one talented lady – look at her dancing with those hot gay men!

And if you can take your eyes off Gaga during this video, I don’t think you’re human.

Lady Gaga: Live at the Pepsi Center

I meant to post a review for this concert right after it happened, but things have been busy in my world so I didn’t get the chance until now.

What can I say?  This wasn’t just a concert, it was an experience.  The sets, costumes, choreography, instruments – it was all incredible.

Say what you want about Lady Gaga, you don’t have to like her.  I, for one, find her to be pretty impressive.  She actually sings during her shows, dances, plays the guitar and piano…all while changing clothes regularly and taking you on a journey to the Monster Ball.  Who doesn’t want to be a little monster?

I’m not going to go over the set list, anyone who knows anything about her can guess about the songs she sang.  She did give us a song from her new album, which was awesome, and I am totally looking forward to the album.

She also made a point to mention her favorite charity, THE RE*GENERATION, a charity that focuses on homeless youth, especially youth who have been kicked out of their parents homes for being gay or lesbian.  This is a cause I really believe in, and honestly, it’s something that never occurred to me as something that happens.  I think even my own parents wouldn’t kick a child out for that!  It breaks my heart to think that a parent would do that to their child, and so I thank Lady Gaga for bringing this charity to my attention.

I can’t even describe this show, all I can say is go see her if you’re curious.  You won’t be sorry, and you’ll say it’s worth staying up past your bed time like I did.

Song of the Week

March 21, 2010 By: dorolerium Category: Music

I have two stories related to the song/video for this week. You get to hear one right now, and one after the video.

First, last Saturday I had a friend in town and I insisted that the first thing we do that morning is watch this video. Actually, let me back up: I had heard earlier in the week that this video had come out, that it was weird, and that it was ten minutes long. And I thought “how on earth did they make that song into a ten minute video?”.

If you haven’t guessed by now, it’s the latest video from my girl Gaga! I fell in love with this video from about, oh, the minute we see Lady Gaga walk on screen. For those of you who love Michael Jackson, there’s even a little tribute dance move in here for him. But then I got to thinking and decided the whole video is a tribute to him, to an extent, because who else do you know that turned a normal length song into a mini movie?

I adore the Thelma & Louise type feeling to the video.  Other Gaga songs playing in there.  The reference to Quentin Tarantino.  Who I hope, btw, loves Lady Gaga, because who wouldn’t!  And don’t you just love Beyonce acting all fun instead of serious?

For our second story: My friend and I went to the Lush store in Boulder, Colorado, and I overhear this fabulous salesman saying “When we all got into work this morning, I told these girls that we were going to get to work in a minute, but first we had to watch the new Lady Gaga video.”  I turned to him and exclaimed “I told her the very same thing this morning!”  I do believe I met a kindred spirit!

So anyway, even if you don’t like Gaga, I suggest you watch the video anyway.  At least that way you will be informed on what’s going on, and you’ll likely have been entertained for a few minutes!

Song of the Week

I tried hard to find a video for this song, but there wasn’t one, so I went for sound quality. Which probably makes you think “Wow, is this a song from the 80’s?” And no, it’s not. Although wouldn’t you kill for a little Video Killed the Radio Star right now. Man I do love that song.

Today I have more Lady Gaga for you. See, when I discovered that there was a second disc that went along with The Fame, called Monster, I was super depressed that I hadn’t realized it before I heard the Bad Romance single. I’d never really looked into it…I mean, who releases a two disc album for their debut? My girl Gaga, that’s who!

There are a lot of great songs on the Monster half of this album, and it’s interesting to me that it feels like she’s evolved with it when it’s actually the same album that all the other great singles came out on. I personally think this would also make an awesome single, but hasn’t been released as one…yet. So I give you the title track off Monster:

Maybe it takes someone who really likes Lady Gaga a whole lot to appreciate the song, because I have not heard a single person besides me say anything about it. But as soon as I heard this song, after I bought Monster and listened to Bad Romance like a hundred times, I was convinced it’s dance/pop gold.

Song of the Week

I think this song is possibly stuck in everyone’s heads right now. And imagine how happy I am that it’s the first single off a new album!

Dying to know what I speak of? It is the always amusing, infinitely strange, Lady Gaga singing Bad Romance.

What do I love about this song? Well, it’s Gaga, first off. I adore her. I think her music is fantastic and though I will admit she is super bizarre, I am drawn to her. If you see her in interviews, she keeps up the weird persona all the time, and I think it’s great!

Aside from that, the song has a fun beat and a catchy chorus. What more could I ask for out of a pop tune? You know I’ll be buying the new album when it comes out on November 24!
