I learned on the radio one day that this song is in a commercial, which is probably how I recognize it, along with many of you. Sometimes I hate songs in commercials, but sometimes I think “wow, this is a great song!” And this, internets, is one of the songs I say is awesome!
I love the pop tune, with a mohawk to go along with it. The song, called Animal by Neon Trees, is the sort of song I see just describing a summer. To me, it’s the equivalent of I’m Not Over You for me last year. Such a great, fun song. Plus, girl drummer = awesome in my book
I can assure you when I say that I really meant to post this song months ago when the video came out, I really meant to have this up months ago. I don’t know what happened to me! The truth is, I didn’t even remember to watch it until days after it premiered. You can guess who it is, because if you think about it, there’s only one person who I yearn for videos from.
The first thing I will say is that this video features the most I’ve seen her clothed in quite awhile. It’s like Tim Burton meets Madonna meets Awesome! Say what you want about Lady Gaga, I will stand by the fact that she is one talented lady – look at her dancing with those hot gay men!
And if you can take your eyes off Gaga during this video, I don’t think you’re human.
One of my favorite things in a song is something that SOUNDS happy, but you actually pay attention to it and it’s so not. The Killers do this all the time and I love it. But this is not a Killers song, although I should really listen to them soon. This week, I bring you the latest single from Maroon 5.
Okay, to be honest, I’m not sure I really like the video. You know how I’m a proponent of posting actual videos when I find them. But I also feel like this video is just so out there that it kind of takes away from the song. On the other hand, I love seeing a woman in a position of power. Yet I feel like it’s just a mans perspective of a woman in power, in a totally veiled sexual way. In any case, I do really like the song. Maroon 5 is one of those bands I really should add to my iTunes library!
This week, I’m sticking with the theme I started last week – songs that make me happy. That I dance to in the car. I sing along to. They make me want to go to the club.
I’ll admit, I love Usher anyway. He’s hot, has an awesome voice, dances like a mofo. And now brings us a song that talks about dancing and the DJ getting us to fall in love! Who could ask for more.
Just dance dance like it’s the last last night of your life life! It’s great advice, because it might just be the last night of your life, and don’t you wish you’d spent it dancing? If I could spend every night dancing, I’m pretty sure I’d be way happier.
I feel like much of my life has been blah bordering on depressing lately, so I’m relishing in finding a totally happy, bouncy, awesomely summer song to present this week.
I’ll admit that I think Taio Cruz is actually pretty talented in general. He’s a good singer, and although he’s not super cute by himself, his accent makes him totally adorable. And I don’t completely love this video, but I do really like crediting singers when they have videos for songs, so there you go.
This song makes me happy, plain and simple. I like to find the simple pleasures in life, especially when things are stressy and not so awesome, and this song is just that – a simple pleasure. I dare you to try not dancing to it! I sing along with it every time I hear it!
One thing that I totally love in music is when a band does something that really surprises you. It’s like hearing a beautiful love ballad from an 80’s hair band. Although admittedly, I never fell for that particular trick…November Rain never got me! And full on rock is probably my least listened to genre. Anyway, I digress.
I’ve made no secret of my love for pop and dance music, so I’m sure you’re all shocked when I post anything not at all pop or dancy. Or, by my standards aren’t pop or dance, I can’t speak for everyone else.
Sometimes I’ll be listening to my iPod and find something that very much surprises me. Not that it’s in my collection, but the band who serves as the source. And that’s what I bring you today, a lovely gem of a song, nestled in a long standing dance band.
This is the kind of song I sort of expect from Coldplay, not New Order. But I do love New Order, especially the fact that they can be surprising with a sweet song like this one. I still love their classics, and this absolutely has the feel of them in it, yet shows you that hidden behind that electronic front, lies some real talent.
I heard this song first thing when I got in the car this morning, and it was stuck in my head all day. Admittedly, had I heard the verse instead of the chorus first, I probably would have turned the station. But happily, the chorus was on, and I’m so glad, because I already love this song.
It occurred to me, all day when I couldn’t get it out of my head, that I’m a huge sucker for a rap song with a beautifully sung chorus. That simple addition to a song will draw me in almost any time, you can get me listen to Snoop, B.O.B, anything if you just throw in a girl singing.
You can even get me to listen to Eminem. Yes, that guy who I disagree with on so many levels, who I’ve never listened to before. Even though he does have a hilarious line in one song, “I’m your mother fuckin’ conscience” – it gets me every time. Anyway, I’m a pretty big advocate of Rihanna, so if you want me to listen to your music, just put her in the song.
Honestly, it’s a pretty good song all around. I didn’t think that Eminem had this kind of sentimentality in him. And in case you were wondering, yes, this song makes me cry. But that’s alright because I love the way you lie.
Despite being in my late 20’s and having essentially grown up with Weezer, they aren’t among the bands I listen to with any regularity. It’s not like I hate them or anything, they’re just mostly okay for me. Yeah, I’ve heard the Sweater Song and Buddy Holly…like I said, I’m in my late 20’s.
One thing I will say for this band is they have successfully grown with the music industry, yet they haven’t slipped into hip hop at all. And I’ll go further by saying current Weezer is more my thing than old Weezer was.
Anyway, I was listening to the radio one day and I hear this song start…I honestly thought it was the new Paramore single or something. But no, it’s Weezer!
I decided to feature this song this week because, well, for me to be in favor of a Weezer song enough to just listen through it all the way on the radio – that deserves a mention.
I haven’t made any secret of my love for Lady Gaga. If you don’t know that by now, you haven’t been reading this blog long enough.
What do I love more than Lady Gaga? Other bands that I like loving Lady Gaga. And then posting their love on the internet for all of us to see.
Did y’all have any idea that Jared Leto is a Gaga fan? Me either! Let me just say that this knowledge firmly put him on the Would Marry list. Speaking of, I really need to update that thing.
How did I find out this fabulous information? Well, see, I was looking at 30 Seconds to Mars video’s on Youtube and it was all “how about this Bad Romance cover” and I was like “youtube, are you shitting me?” It wasn’t.
I still don’t understand that French part when he sings it. Probably because I don’t understand French. But anyway, I love this cover. Do I love it as much as the original? No. But I do love it anyway.
If they did a video like the one Lady Gaga did for this song, I think I would fly to wherever they are currently on tour and propose to Jared Leto right then and there.
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a Song of the Week. What can I say? I’ve been distracted!
As I tweeted last week, and was pleasantly reminded by my iPod, there is no end to the amazing music Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins have put out over the years. Even Zeitgeist has grown on me over time, and unintentionally, as I haven’t gone out and chosen listened to it, but rather heard it on shuffle.
The song I’ve chosen for your listening pleasure is This Time, from their studio album MACHINA/The Machines of God.
Maybe this song speaks to me more now because I feel the message of it is relevant to events of my life, or maybe it’s just a beautiful song. I’m not exactly prepared to make the distinction at this moment. But I hope you enjoy the song.
